Dr. Milad Roohi is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Charles W. Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) and director of the SiRIUS Lab. He also serves as a UNL College of Engineering Teaching Fellow.

Before joining UNL, he worked as a Senior Scientist at AonImpact Forecasting (catastrophe modeling R&D) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Center for Risk-Based Community Resilience Planning (headquartered at Colorado State University). He earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Vermont.

He specializes in structural engineering and mechanics; risk, reliability, and resilience engineering; and infrastructure sensing and monitoring. His research integrates data, algorithms, computational models, and emerging technologies to improve design, assessment, and monitoring of interconnected civil infrastructure and urban systems.

Selected recognition: IABSE Outstanding Scientific Paper Award (2025); Editor’s Choice, ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering (2025); EOS OpenSees Research & Innovation Award (2025); NSF U.S.–Japan Research Collaboration Award / invited delegate (2025).

Service highlights: Chair, ASCE Objective Resilience Committee; active roles with ASCE SHMC and Dynamics committees; IABSE task group on infrastructure resilience design requirements.
